How Long Does Window Replacement Take in the Treasure Valley?
Most whole home window replacements in the Treasure Valley take one to two days on site, and a single window is usually finished in under an hour once the crew is set up. The longer part of the timeline comes before install day, because custom sized windows take several weeks to build. How long does each window take to install?
A standard retrofit insert, where the new window fits inside the existing frame, takes about 30 to 60 minutes per opening. A full frame replacement, where the old frame comes out down to the studs and new flashing goes in, takes closer to one to two hours per opening. A typical Treasure Valley home with 10 to 15 windows is a one day job for a two or three person crew. Larger homes, second story windows that need staging, and full frame jobs on older Boise Bench and North End houses usually run two days.
What happens before installation day?
The first visit is a measurement appointment where every opening is measured twice. Windows are then built to order, and lead times run roughly four to eight weeks depending on the manufacturer and the glass package. Most window swaps in Ada and Canyon County do not need a permit unless the opening size changes or an egress window is added. How should you prepare your home?
Clear about three feet of space inside each window, take down blinds and curtains, and move anything fragile off nearby shelves. If you have an alarm system with window sensors, let your alarm company know in advance. Outside, open gates and pull vehicles out of the way of the trailer.
Does the season affect scheduling?
Windows can be installed year round in the Treasure Valley, but fall is the sweet spot. Temperatures are mild enough for sealants to cure properly, and the work is done before the first cold snap raises heating bills. Installers seal one opening at a time, so your home is never fully open to the weather. Windy afternoons in Kuna and Star can push exterior trim work by a few hours, but rarely a full day.
