A little maintenance keeps small roof problems from turning into storm-season emergencies. Here is a simple checklist for Treasure Valley homeowners.

Before storm season

Get ahead of the weather. Have your roof inspected, clear your gutters and downspouts, check that flashing and pipe boots are sealed, and trim back any branches hanging over the roof. Catching a worn spot now is far cheaper than fixing a leak later.

After every major storm

Once it is safe, do a ground-level check for missing or lifted shingles, dented gutters and vents, and granules washed into the gutters. Step inside and look for new ceiling stains or attic moisture. Document anything you find with photos in case you need a claim.

Twice a year

Clear your gutters in late spring and again in late fall, and give the roof a general look in between. For more on keeping gutters clear, see our Treasure Valley gutter guide.

Let us handle the inspection

The on-roof part of this checklist is best left to a professional. Call us in Idaho at (208) 295-9421 or request a free inspection and we will do the climbing for you.
